Johnson Matthey Limited, a major international gold refiner in Toronto (Canada), previously issued an extensive range of minted bars from the early 1970s until 2000. The minted bars were produced at two locations: 110 Industry Street (1970s – 1990) and the company’s large gold refinery in Brampton (1990 – 2000) near the international airport of Toronto. Over this period of almost 30 years, the company was the largest manufacturer of minted bars in North America. Millions of bars were produced and wholesaled to dealers around the world, notably in North America, Europe and the Far East. The bars are still widely held by investors and traded by dealers on the secondary market. It can be noted that the Johnson Matthey Group remains a major manufacturer of cast gold bars (400 oz, 100 oz, 10 oz and 1000 g) for the international market. In addition to Johnson Matthey Limited (Canada), which has been accredited to the LBMA since 1961, Johnson Matthey Inc (USA) has been accredited to the LBMA since 1989.
